The Federal Telecommunications Commission of Mexico (COFETEL) made a significant decision yesterday (June 6th 2012) by launching the first phase of a public policy program that will lead, eventually, to the licensing of additional radio spectrum for the provision of TV services in Mexico. This program is expected to increase the competition in the national broadcasting market, which has been dominated in recent decades for two major operators: Televisa and TV Azteca.
