The name of the future head of the Secretariat of Economic Law (SDE), which is the investigative body of the Brazilian Antitrust Authorities, was finally diclosed to the public. Vinícius Marques de Carvalho, who is currently Councilman at the Administrative Council of Economic Law (CADE), will lead the SDE during the transition period, in which the changes in the new Antitrust Law will be under implementation – if approved, the new Antitrust Law will substantially increase the powers of the entity following the SDE. In the meanwhile, Ana Maria Mello will be the head of the SDE, replacing Diego Falleck, who had been the head of SDE since Mariana Tavares left to join a firm. Vinícius Marques de Carvalho will start to lead SDE’s team only in February – if he leaves his post at the CADE now, the decision-making agency will not have enough Commissioners to make valid decisions. For this reason, inícius Marques de Carvalho is expected to move to the SDE only by the mid February, when the National Congress is expected to have already approved new Commissioners for the CADE.
