I would like to invite you to join us for the CPI Learning Center’s next interactive web seminar, “It Takes Two to Tango: Competition Policy Analysis for Two-Sided Markets,” presented by David S. Evans and Richard Schmalensee.

This course is a three-class course taking place over consecutive weeks. Session One, entitled “The New Economics of Two-Sided Markets” will take place on Wednesday, March 11 at 12 pm E.S.T. It will be presented over CPI’s Global Learning Platform which delivers live lectures globally in real time. See the full series schedule and details on each session at the end of this email.

The area of two-sided markets is one of the hottest in economics and competition policy—particularly given the explosive growth of the internet which has given rise to many new two (and even multi-sided) enterprises. These enterprises, that enable two or more groups of customers to interact on a single physical or virtual platform, have proven to create significant value for both customers and the platform itself. We now understand that the interactions among these groups of distinct customers has tremendous legal and economic implications. Analyzing competitive practices such as mergers and abuse of dominance in these two-sided markets requires special consideration. This course will provide an introduction to two-sided markets and will illustrate how the concepts can be applied for market definition and for analyzing monopolization and abuse of dominance cases.

This course has significant professional and practical content for attorneys practicing in the antitrust and competition policy arenas, both domestically and abroad.
